Civil Rights Movement
During the modern American civil rights movement, from 1954 to 1968, people were killed because they were activists for civil rights work. Others were killed by vigilantes wanting to halt the civil rights movement. Still others were individuals whose deaths brought awareness to the struggle.
The Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama, memorializes these victims.
