In 2017, Sterling K. Brown (1976– ), born Sterling Kelby Brown in St. Louis, Missouri, won an Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Drama for his role in the television series This Is Us. He previously won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie for his role as prosecutor Christophe Darden in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. As a stage actor, he was nominated for an Ovation Award for his role in Father Comes Home from the Wars. Also in 2017, he had a starring role in the film Marshall—about Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. Sterling earned a bachelor's degree in drama from Stanford University and a master's in fine arts degree from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
