In 2017, comedian and actress Leslie Jones (1967– ) was selected as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Born Annette Jones in Memphis, Tennessee, she is known for her comedy as a cast member of Saturday Night Live (where she has also worked as a writer) and for her role in the all-female remake of the film Ghostbusters (2016). At the 2017 Emmy Awards, she was nominated for Outstanding Performance as a Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in Saturday Night Live. She played basketball at her high school in Lynwood, California, won a basketball scholarship to Chapman University in Orange, California, and later transferred to Colorado State, where she played basketball and began performing standup comedy.
