In 1997, sixteen-year-old H'cone Thompson (1981– ), whose name is the backward spelling of his father's name Enoch, received the Arthur Ashe U.S. Open Tennis Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a junior player who "best exemplifies sportsmanship, fair play and academic excellence." He also excelled in tennis at Lafayette College, where he graduated in 2003 and where he was a four-year letterman and two-year co-captain of the tennis team. In 2004, he qualified for the Davis Cup, representing his home country, the Bahamas.
