Charles Bradley (1948–2017), born Charles Edward Bradley in Gainesville, Florida, was known as the "Screaming Eagle of Soul" because of his powerful, raspy voice that mimicked the style of one of his musical idols, James Brown. He achieved success later in life, releasing his first album, No Time for Dreaming, in 2011. A second album, Victim of Love, was released in 2013 and his third, Changes, in 2016. The album Black Velvet was released posthumously in November 2018. He started his career as a James Brown impersonator, using the stage name Black Velvet. He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2016 for his live performance on CBS This Morning: Saturday. Charles Bradley loved his audiences and was known for walking into the audience after a performance, giving hugs.
